Lakota east freshman building
Break-a-Thon is probably our most important event of the year - here at Han's White Tiger, we believe in not only teaching our students Tae Kwon Do, focus, respect & confidence (among others) but we strongly believe in being involved in our local community and giving back to those who are most in need.
What is Break-a-Thon??? Break-a-Thon is an event that is near and dear to our hearts. We take time out of our busy lives to raise money: through restaurant fundraisers, craft making, raffles and whatever creative efforts our students and families come up with. Then, on Saturday, November 7th, we gather at Lakota East Freshman Campus for a day of Carnival Games & Raffles as well as a lot of kicking, punching, demonstration and breaking boards!! At the end of the day, we present Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with a check totaling 100% of our fundraising proceeds!!
Each year, we select a different department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to receive our funds. In years past, Cancer & Blood Disease Institute, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Cardiology, Psychology and many others have been recipients of our event. To date, we have raised over $140,000 dollars for Cincinnati Children's Hospital!
This year, we have chosen Camp Joy, a very special program at Cincinnati Children’s. Children who are patients of our Cancer & Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) undergo extensive treatments that frequently keep them from going to school, hanging out with friends and doing normal childhood things, often for long periods of time. They need a place where they can just be kids. This is the purpose of Camp Joy. Camp Joy provides kids with a week long camp experience where they can swim, fish, hike, canoe and have Smore’s over a camp fire and just have fun. At camp, there is an entire team of qualified medical professionals availble to handle any medical needs they may have. The incredible part of this is that, through generous donations, this camp is provided at no cost to these kids and families!!
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is a world renowned pediatric facility that provides life saving care to children living around the globe. We are extremely fortunate to have such incredible medical professionals right here in Cincinnati to take care of our kids and are excited to once again hold this event to support our local Children’s Hospital and the children that they provide care to.
Keep an eye out on our website for more information on this event as we get closer to November 7th!!
What exactly happens during Break-a-Thon??
This is a fun and exciting day for us here at Han's White Tiger and all of our students!! Break-a-Thon will take place at the Lakota Each Freshman building (near our Liberty Dojang).
10:30am - 12pm - Carnival Games!! There are tons of carnival games for students and adults to enjoy as well as face painting! We will sell tickets for our raffle baskets during this time as well as tickets for Split the Pot.
12pm - Lunch. We will have pizza, snacks and drinks available for purchase.
1pm - 3pm - Our Main Event!! We will have our students come out and demonstrate all the skills and awesome things they've been learning in Tae Kwon Do. Our demo team will perform and we hope to have demo teams from local schools come and perform as well! Towards the end of the event, we will bring forward a special guest from Cincinnati Children's Hospital to present to them the final check. In the last 10 years, we have donated over $140,000 to Children's Hospital!! At the end, we invite all of our families, friends and all in attendance to join us on the mat as we go through a massive round of breaking boards. We'll grab a group photo afterwards!
How do you raise funds for Break-a-Thon?
Personal Fundraising Page- Check back with us for more information!
Restaurant fundraisers - We will have several restaurant fundraisers available between now and November 7th. Keep an eye out for more information!
Penny Jars - These will be appearing shortly at both our Liberty and West Chester locations. Each jar will have a picture of one of our staff members on it. Add pennies (or quarters, dollars, $20 or however much you want!) from now until Break-a-Thon on November 7th. The goal? Whichever jar has the most amount of money in it, that staff member will receive a pie in the face at our Break-a-Thon event on November 7th!! Who would you like to see be the recipient of this?!?!?
Yellow Stars - These will be appearing at both our Liberty & West Chester locations shortly as well. Students & families may purchase a star and put their name on it or the name of someone important to them. These purchased stars will be displayed at our school. 100% of the proceeds will go towards Cincinnati Children's.
Raffle Baskets - If you own a business or know of anyone that owns a business or simply want to help out, we are looking for donations for raffle baskets. These baskets will be put together prior to Break-a-Thon event and will be raffled off during our event that day. Anything from children's activities, gift cards to local businesses & restaurants, tickets to local events & places like King's Island/Main Event, items for a movie night, etc are welcome!
Monetary Donations - In the past, we have had students simply ask for monetary donations from friends, family & businesses to help support our cause. Monetary donations should be brought in the week prior to Break-a-Thon so that we have a chance to total everything up.
Be Creative!!! - In years past, we've had students come up with very creative ways to raise money. Some kids have had a lemonade stand, garage sale, made bracelets & scrunchies, etc. Use your creative energy to come up with something cool! We can't wait to see what you come up with!
Together We Can Make a Difference!!!!!
